Transfer of ownership

Transfer ownership of files and folders to other users

Nextcloud now includes a new feature that allows you to transfer files and folders to other sciebo users within the same organization. This can be useful, for example, if you want to transfer data from your personal account to a project box. To use this feature, go to Settings > Sharing > Files.

  1. Under “Transfer ownership of a file or folder,” click the “Choose file or folder to transfer” button.
  2. In the menu that opens, select the directory or file you want to transfer by clicking on it. The name of this file will appear on the green button. Click this button to complete the process.
  3. Under “New Owner,” enter the ID of the person who is to take ownership, and confirm by clicking “Transfer <directory/file> to <ID>.” The person will receive a notification (Web Interface: bell icon) asking them to accept or decline the transfer. After accepting the ownership transfer, a background process will start for the transfer.
  • According to Nextcloud, this can take up to an hour. The data is physically transferred from one account to the recipient’s account, giving the new owner full control over it. After the transfer, the data is placed in a separate folder labeled “Transferred from …” and can be moved to the appropriate location as needed. Any shared items are also transferred.
